Gradient: Study Tracker helps students track assessment results, study sessions, goals, trends, and progress over time.

Gradient is designed to be privacy-conscious. We do not sell your personal information, do not use your personal information for targeted advertising, and do not transfer your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.

However, Gradient is not a “no data collected” app. If you create a Gradient account, submit feedback, use cloud sync, make a purchase, or allow analytics, some information is processed through services such as Supabase, PostHog, and Apple.

Your academic and study data is used to provide the app’s features. It is not used for advertising, sold, or shared with schools, teachers, parents, classmates, or other users.

Privacy Policy Terms of Use Lifetime Premium

1. Who this policy applies to

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use Gradient: Study Tracker, our website, support channels, feedback forms, and related services.

Gradient is intended for secondary-school and university students aged 13 and over. Gradient is not directed to children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

2. Information you provide to Gradient

Depending on how you use Gradient, you may provide the following information.

Account information

If you create a Gradient account, we collect:

  • email address;
  • authentication information handled through Supabase Auth;
  • account identifier;
  • account status and sync status;
  • information needed to provide account deletion, syncing, and premium access.

We do not see your password. Password handling is managed by Supabase Auth.

Academic and study information

If you use Gradient’s tracking features, you may enter:

  • subject names;
  • subject colours;
  • assessment names;
  • assessment dates;
  • scores, percentages, grades, ranks, and class averages;
  • satisfaction ratings;
  • study-session dates, durations, subjects, and related timing information;
  • grading-system preferences, custom grade boundaries, and grading presets;
  • estimated GPA settings;
  • daily and weekly study-goal settings;
  • review-calendar preferences;
  • graph and display preferences;
  • widget preferences;
  • focus-restriction preferences.

Gradient does not ask you to enter your school name, year level, teacher names, other students’ names, photos, scanned documents, health information, medical information, or wellbeing reflections.

You should avoid entering highly personal or sensitive information into subject names, assessment names, feedback messages, or any optional text field.

Feedback information

If you submit feedback through the app, we may collect:

  • feedback category;
  • feedback message;
  • optional email address, if you choose to provide one;
  • app version;
  • build number;
  • platform;
  • operating-system version;
  • device model;
  • whether the feedback came from a beta/TestFlight build;
  • whether the feedback may relate to a premium reward for beta testing;
  • your Gradient account identifier if you are signed in.

Feedback is used to improve Gradient, fix bugs, respond to support requests, and manage beta feedback. Please do not include personal, academic, health, or sensitive information in feedback unless it is necessary for your request.

Payment and premium information

Gradient offers a free plan and a Lifetime Premium purchase.

Payments are handled through Apple In-App Purchase / StoreKit. Apple handles payment processing. We do not receive your full credit-card number or Apple ID password. We may receive or store information needed to confirm that a purchase occurred and to provide Premium access, such as transaction status, entitlement status, product identifier, and related purchase records.

Analytics information

Gradient uses analytics to understand which features are used and to improve the app. Analytics are intended to be limited to feature usage and app interaction events, such as whether a screen or feature was opened.

Gradient does not intentionally send subject names, assessment names, scores, grades, class averages, GPA values, satisfaction ratings, study-session details, or other academic content to analytics services.

Analytics may include:

  • app version;
  • platform;
  • device or operating-system information;
  • approximate usage events;
  • anonymous or pseudonymous identifiers;
  • feature-usage information;
  • crash or diagnostic information, if enabled.

Gradient currently uses PostHog for analytics. PostHog can support product analytics, feature flags, surveys, experiments, and session replay, but Gradient should not enable session replay or autocapture of sensitive academic content. Gradient’s analytics should be configured so that academic data is not captured.

3. How Gradient uses information

We use information to:

  • create and manage Gradient accounts;
  • authenticate users;
  • sync data between devices where cloud sync is enabled;
  • display assessment results, averages, trends, study progress, streaks, and reviews;
  • generate milestone graphics and period reviews;
  • provide Lifetime Premium features;
  • process feedback and support requests;
  • improve app reliability and usability;
  • understand broad feature usage;
  • prevent misuse, fraud, or security issues;
  • comply with legal obligations;
  • respond to privacy requests.

We do not use your academic data to advertise to you, sell data, build external student profiles, or share information with schools or other users.

4. Cloud sync and storage

Gradient uses Supabase for account services, feedback, and cloud sync.

If you create a Gradient account and use sync, your Gradient data may be stored in Supabase so that it can be backed up and synced across your devices. Synced learning data is designed to be encrypted before being uploaded to Supabase. Account information, feedback metadata, and some operational records may not be end-to-end encrypted because they are needed for account, support, and service functionality.

Synced data may include:

  • subjects;
  • assessment results;
  • assessment dates;
  • class averages and ranks;
  • satisfaction ratings;
  • study sessions;
  • grading systems and custom grade boundaries;
  • grading presets;
  • learning preferences;
  • study goals;
  • graph and review preferences.

Gradient does not use iCloud sync for this cloud-sync system unless stated separately in the app.

If you sign out, your local data may remain on your device unless you delete it. Signing out does not necessarily delete your cloud sync records.

5. Focus Restrictions and Screen Time permissions

Gradient may offer Focus Restrictions using Apple Screen Time, Family Controls, or related Apple frameworks.

If you enable this feature, Gradient may ask for permission to help restrict selected apps or websites during focus or study sessions. The apps or websites you select are intended to remain on-device and are not used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or sale.

Gradient does not use Focus Restrictions unless you enable the feature and grant the required permission.

6. Notifications

Gradient may use local notifications for reminders such as:

  • study reminders;
  • streak reminders;
  • study progress reminders;
  • period review availability;
  • reminders to add assessments or return to the app.

If Gradient uses only local notifications, notification content is generated on your device and no push-notification token is sent to Gradient’s servers. If Gradient later adds push notifications, this policy will be updated to explain what is collected and why.

7. Sharing and exports

Gradient may let you generate and share milestone graphics, year/semester/term reviews, and similar visual summaries.

These graphics may include academic or study information such as subject names, scores, class averages, study time, or streaks, depending on what you choose to share. They do not include your name, school name, or GPA unless Gradient clearly adds that feature and you choose to include it.

Shared graphics are generated on-device. Once you share or export content outside Gradient, you are responsible for who receives it and how they use it.

8. Third-party services

Gradient may use the following third-party services:

Supabase

Supabase provides account authentication, database storage, cloud sync, and feedback storage. Supabase may process data in countries outside Australia, including the United States or other locations used by Supabase and its service providers.

PostHog

PostHog provides analytics. Gradient uses PostHog to understand broad feature usage and improve the app. Gradient should not use PostHog to collect academic content, assessment data, scores, subject names, or session recordings of sensitive app content.

Apple

Apple provides the App Store, StoreKit, In-App Purchase, device permissions, local notifications, Family Controls / Screen Time frameworks, and platform security features. Apple processes purchases and platform-level services under Apple’s own terms and privacy policies.

9. International transfers

Gradient is based in Victoria, Australia, but is available worldwide. Some service providers may process information outside your country, including in Australia, the United States, the European Union, or other countries.

Where required, we take reasonable steps to use service providers that apply appropriate privacy and security protections.

10. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.

Account and sync records are generally kept while your account remains active. We may delete inactive accounts and associated cloud sync records after 12 months of inactivity. Inactivity may include no sign-in, sync, upload, or meaningful account activity for that period.

Feedback and support records may be kept while needed to improve Gradient, respond to support issues, manage beta testing, or handle legal/security matters. We aim to delete or anonymise feedback records when they are no longer reasonably needed.

Purchase and entitlement records may be kept for as long as needed to provide Premium access, handle refunds or support issues, comply with platform requirements, and meet legal or accounting obligations.

11. Deleting your data

Gradient provides deletion controls in the app.

You may be able to:

  • wipe local learning data from your device;
  • delete your cloud sync backup while keeping your Gradient account;
  • delete your Gradient account;
  • delete local data and associated cloud records.

Deleting the app from your device does not always delete your Gradient account or cloud records, because deleting an app does not reliably send a deletion request to Gradient’s servers. To delete cloud data, use the in-app deletion options before deleting the app, or contact us at privacy@gradientstudy.com.

If you delete your Gradient account, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify account records, cloud sync records, feedback records linked to that account, waitlist/contact records linked to that account, and Premium entitlement records linked to that account, unless retention is required or permitted by law.

Some residual copies may remain temporarily in backups, logs, or security systems before being deleted through normal technical processes.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information.

Gradient relies on Apple platform security, Supabase security features, encrypted network connections, and app-level protections. Synced learning data is designed to be encrypted before upload. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is perfectly secure.

Gradient does not store Face ID or Touch ID biometric data. If device authentication is added, authentication is handled by Apple’s system frameworks and Gradient receives only an authentication result.

You are responsible for keeping your device, Apple ID, Gradient account, and password secure.

13. Children and younger users

Gradient is not intended for children under 13. Users under 13 must not create a Gradient account or submit personal information through the app.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Gradient, contact privacy@gradientstudy.com and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Users in some countries may have additional rights or consent requirements based on local law.

14. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of your personal information.

You can manage much of your data directly in the app. For other privacy requests, contact: privacy@gradientstudy.com

We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

15. No sale or targeted advertising

Gradient does not sell your personal information.

Gradient does not use your personal information for targeted advertising.

Gradient does not transfer your personal information to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties for targeted advertising.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as by updating the policy in the app or on our website.

The “Effective date” at the top of this policy shows when it was last updated.
